RECENT RESEARCH:

MollyHealthTech’s Emerging Technologies and the Future of Independent Living Expert Panel Meeting Summary: HealthTech gathered fourteen experts from a diverse group of disciplines to discuss and define the role of emerging technologies in supporting the independent living needs of older adults and persons with disabilities over the next 10 years. With 70 forecasts derived from extensive research and over 60 interviews, the one-day session provided valuable information on the future of independent living. Conference Summary

Geriatrics:

Consumer Electronics Show Conference Summary: The one-day Silvers Summit session presented on topics including marketing to the senior population, accessibility and usability of technologies, brain fitness and gaming, smart home technology, wireless and healthcare, telehealth, and personal health records (PHRs). One of the most promising solutions to improve and maintain the health, safety, and well-being of seniors is the use of wireless, mobile technologies. Conference Summary

lieberman Interview with Debra Lieberman, PhD: The growing use of games in health applications can promote behavior change, support physical activity, develop self-efficacy skills in health promotion and disease management, augment rehabilitation, and provide a portal for patients to health plans. Health games of the future will involve use of patient specific data to provide greater context awareness, merge virtual and physical worlds to create an augmented reality, and leverage advances in mobile and network computing for social networking. Health Games Technology Profile: Health Games use interactive multi-media gaming platforms to support patient self-management and self-efficacy across a broad range of health conditions, fitness and wellness applications. The introduction of greater context-awareness, socialization, and augmented reality features into gaming platforms will drive future product development and market growth. Medicine Meets Virtual Reality Conference Summary: The Medicine Meets Virtual Reality Conference (MMVR) showcased emerging technologies for medical care and education at all levels of development: from prototypes, through assessment and validation, to clinical and academic utilization and commercialization. MMVR focused on three areas of modeling and simulation in healthcare including use for therapies, clinical training, and simulator and virtual environment development. Conference Summary

Children’s Services:

Interview with David Kaelber, MD, PhD, MPH: While many people recognize the potential for EMRs to improve clinical and financial performance, much progress remains to be made to improve the core functionality of EMRs to truly benefit the health of patients. EMR and clinical decision support tools around childhood obesity diagnosis may improve outcomes and intervention as these systems are created. Interview Summary
